Allen has come a long way from its small-town roots. In 1988, fewer than 20,000 people called it home. Today, that number has grown to over 111,000, bringing new opportunities and challenges — including the need for modern law enforcement infrastructure.

The Allen Police Department’s headquarters, once a modest single-story building, underwent multiple expansions in its 37 years — yet it still struggled to meet the needs of a rapidly growing city. Now, a new facility is on the horizon, promising the space and resources necessary to support officers in their mission to keep Allen safe.

On Feb. 24, the Allen Police Department broke ground on its brand-new headquarters — a step forward in enhancing public safety for the community.

The new 101,000-square-foot, three-story facility will take its place on Century Parkway, nestled between Allen City Hall and the Allen post office. Built with the future of law enforcement in mind, the new Allen Police Department headquarters is designed to enhance both efficiency and community engagement.

The facility will feature a large community room for public events, an expanded property and evidence room, and a state-of-the-art crime scene lab to strengthen investigative efforts. Officers will also benefit from secure parking, designed workspaces to streamline operations and a human performance center focused on wellness and resilience. Additionally, a spacious training room will support the APD Fit Force program.

“Our new police headquarters is a symbol of the strong partnership between the Allen Police Department and our community,” Police Chief Steve Dye said in an official statement. “This facility reflects the trust our residents place in us, and we will continue working to uphold that trust every day.”

When The HQ Will Open

Funded through the 2023 bond election and federal grant funds, the project is slated for a 20-month construction period with an anticipated opening in early 2027.

“We can’t wait to see this facility take shape and eventually welcome you all back for the grand opening ceremony in 2027,” Mayor Baine Brooks said. “The citizens of Allen voted on this in a bond, which speaks volumes about what they think about our first responders.”
