This week, the city of Dallas and the Dallas Sports Commission announced the upcoming lineup of events that will take place leading up to the State Fair Classic football game, which is set to kickoff on Sept. 30.

The State Fair Classic is a historic college football showdown between the Prairie View A&M Panthers and the Grambling State Tigers that has taken place every year since the 1980s. The two teams will renew that storied rivalry at the Cotton Bowl, which will be taking place in Fair Park.

"The State Fair Classic is a vibrant celebration of culture and tradition that brings our community together,” said Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins. “Dallas is proud to host this event and showcase the rich heritage of HBCUs."

This year’s anticipated football matchup will feature two renowned singers who are set to perform live at the Chevy Main Stage.

Prior to the game, acclaimed singer/songwriter CeeLo Green will be taking to the stage to perform his extensive catalog of hits. Performing postgame is Grammy Award winning R&B singer Chrisette Michele, known for soulful tunes like “Epiphany” and “A Couple of Forevers.”

“We’re thrilled to add world-class artists like CeeLo Green and Chrisette Michele to the great tradition of the State Fair Classic,” said Al Wash, founder of ALW Entertainment (concert organizer). “CeeLo and Christette will make the Chevy Main Stage the place to be for both pregame and postgame parties.”

Other events planned to commemorate the State Fair Classic include a celebrity golf tournament (Sept. 29), a high school battle of the bands (Sept. 30), a VIP reception (Sept. 28) and more.

"Our aim is to ensure that the State Fair Classic's lead-up events are accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” said Monica Paul, executive director of the Dallas Sports Commission. “This celebration is about bringing our community together to share in the richness of our culture, sportsmanship, and tradition."
