There’s big news on the horizon for the Dallas museum scene. The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) has chosen Dallas as the perfect location for a major new museum opening in 2020 at DEA (Redbird Airport) and they’re debuting in our skies this October. The first CAF Wings Over Dallas WWII Airshow is taking place at Dallas Executive Airport (DEA), presented by Frost Bank. This is set to become the nation’s premier annual World War II-themed airshow and military reenactment event, a stunning display that honors the past with a tremendous flying display.

This aviation event not only introduces CAF to our area, but also commemorates the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. TORA! TORA! TORA!, an award winning re-creation of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor will be among the event’s special features. The TORA team uses WWII-era aircraft and pyrotechnics to create a dynamic history lesson. In addition to this performance, dozens of other WWII-era aircraft will be exhibited on the ramp and in the air throughout the event.

The CAF has a vision for CAF Wings Over Dallas to become the nation’s per-eminent annual World War II-themed airshow and military reenactment event. Flying demonstrations, flight line presentations, battle reenactments, veteran appearances and aircraft tours will provide hands-on opportunities for families and aviation history enthusiasts.

The organization recently selected Dallas to be the location of its new headquarters and national visitor attraction because of Dallas’ commitment to tourism, American history and culture. Planned to open in 2020, the new museum is expected to play a significant role in the economic and cultural revitalization of southern Dallas.

CAF President Stephan C. Brown said, “The program will combine interactive activities that allow the public to experience the sights and sounds of a historic military airfield. The entire weekend will provide visitors with a sneak preview of how the CAF plans to preserve and teach the story of the men and women of the greatest generation, here in Dallas.”

“Frost Bank is proud to sponsor CAF Wings Over Dallas WWII Airshow,” said Paul Koch, Dallas Region president for Frost. “CAF is a relatively new member to the Dallas community, and we support its efforts to bring a world class aviation and educational event to Dallas Executive Airport, southern Dallas and the entire North Texas region.”
