According to data from the Texas Demographic Center, Texas' population is estimated to have exceeded 30.7 million people this year. In Collin County alone, the population has risen by more than 13%.

Census data shows that in 2020, Collin County recorded a population of 1,064,465. However, by 2023, the population had risen to approximately 1,193,092. Now in 2024, the county has an estimated population of 1,209,295 — 40,900 more than previously estimated

Population data reveals growth across several cities in North Texas:

  • Plano experienced a moderate increase of 2.4%.
  • Frisco saw a robust growth of 10.2%.
  • McKinney followed closely with a 12.3% rise.
  • Wylie grew by 5.1%.
  • The rapidly expanding city of Prosper reported a staggering 40.6% increase.
  • But most notably, Celina's population skyrocketed by an extraordinary 157.6%.

But the growth is not expected to slow. As Local Profile previously reported, the population of Collin County is anticipated to double by the year 2060 with around 2.4 million people calling the county home.

North Texas attracts people rapidly, with 25 Fortune 500 companies now based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area — many in suburbs like Plano, Frisco and McKinney. Companies such as AT&T, Southwest Airlines, Toyota, Intuit and Globe Life are expanding here, making family-friendly communities an appealing choice for newcomers.

Cities in North Texas are showing their dedication to not only providing high-quality businesses, but high-quality developments and investments for the future. In Frisco, for example, the addition of the PGA and the Fields development are proof of what the city is willing to offer its residents. In Plano, Legacy West is a one-stop shop for everything a resident could want. And soon, coming to McKinney, a 20,000-seat amphitheater promises to bring big-name artists and an influx of money from visitors to the county.
