At Frisco City Council’s 2024 Summer Council Work Session, council members finalized the Grand Vision for Grand Park and approved moving forward with the design of Phase 1.
“Grand Park is a world-class urban oasis designed to welcome all Frisco residents and visitors to an intentionally designed community space that invites all ages and abilities to play, explore, discover and connect," the vision statement reads.
Whether you're looking for a nature stroll through the untouched Blackland prairie, playing pickleball or tennis, kayaking on multiple ponds, running a 5K or 10K, enjoying a variety of playgrounds, or having a picnic on the lawn at the Botanic Garden, Grand Park has it all.
Although Grand Park spans 1,000 acres in total, the Grand Park Master Plan focuses on nearly 300 acres, divided into five distinct districts with 16 acres of ponds and connecting trails.
Civic Park spans 68.9 acres and features a 5-acre pond and peninsula, an event lawn for live music accommodating up to 7,500 people, rock climbing, a splash pad, a food truck area, a kayak and paddleboard launch, a nature trail, a sculpture garden, water features and wood decks along the ponds.
Adventure Play covers 39 acres and offers wetland-inspired playgrounds and iconic play areas. Sports Park occupies 45.9 acres and includes facilities for a dog park, table tennis, tennis, pickleball, volleyball, a ski park, disc golf and more.
The Botanic Garden, with its 78.1 acres, features a nature conservatory, a series of curated gardens, lawn spaces and trails, making it ideal for weddings, events, discovery and learning. Lastly, the Nature Center encompasses 36.7 acres of essentially untouched nature trails and Blackland Prairie.
In April 2023, the Frisco City Council approved a $394,000 agreement with IDEO, a global design company, to conceptualize the Grand Park project. IDEO's visioning process included meetings and workshops with community groups and a community survey. This collaborative effort produced a vision statement and guiding principles for Grand Park. In October 2023, the city council approved an agreement with Design Workshop, Inc. for a site analysis.
Construction on the first phase, which includes Civic Park, is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025. The final designs and construction for the rest of the park will follow into 2029.
