On a recent stroll through Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve in Plano I noticed some rather unusual construction underway… it looked like they were building tree houses! Well now I know they weren’t building tree houses at all—work was underway on Go Ape, a treetop adventure course with zip lines, obstacles and more!
Scheduled to open in March 2016, the Go Ape Oak Point Park course is made up of numerous rope ladders, 39 exciting crossings, including the Pirates Crossing, Fisherman’s Trap, Bosun’s Chair, 2 Tarzan swings and 5 zip lines. Overall, there will be 5 individual sections within the course, each section taking adventurers higher into the forest canopy and finishing with a zip line more exciting than the previous one! This unique outdoor experience offers participants a full 2–3 hours of outdoor fun and exercise and costs just $38 for Baboons (children aged 10–15) and $58 for Gorillas and Orangutans (aged 16 and over).
A great outdoor activity for families, friends and groups, the Go Ape Treetop Adventure course gets the adrenaline pumping and gets people out of their comfort zones—there’s nothing quiet like the thrill of swinging from the trees like a baboon, gorilla or orangutan!
At 800 acres, Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve is the largest park in Plano, so if you do decide to give Go Ape a swing, why not make a day out of it? Before or after your Go Ape adventure, check out the park’s 3.5 miles of concrete trails and 5 miles of soft surface trails located along Rowlett Creek. The park’s 2,000 person amphitheater hosts outdoor concerts and festivals throughout the year, and the Oak Point Park Nature & Retreat Center is a great resource for interactive nature exhibits and meeting/rental space.
