Starting Nov. 10, 2024, Galleria Dallas will kick off Texas's most iconic holiday display: a stunning 95-foot-tall Christmas tree, the tallest indoor tree in the nation.
Here are five things you may not know:
- A dedicated team of nearly 50 elves will spend five days constructing the tree.
- The frame is made from five tons of steel.
- The tree is made up of 700 branches — each resembling a 3- to 5-foot tree — that took 14,000 hours to hand-sew with twigs.
- The tree is adorned with over 200,000 programmable LED lights, enabling animations like dancing reindeer, Santa Claus and floating candy canes.
- Atop the tree sits a stunning 10-foot, 100-pound LED star — the first of its kind in the United States.
“The holiday season has always been our time to shine at Galleria Dallas,” said General Manager Angie Freed in an official statement. “The beautiful handiwork and visually stunning technology will truly allow us to create the biggest, brightest, merriest holiday experiences for all of North Texas."
For many North Texans, the most spectacular view of the Galleria Dallas Christmas Tree comes during the beloved Grand Tree Lightings on Nov. 29 and 30. These exciting, free events will showcase performances by two-time national champion and 2022 Olympian Ashley Cain, two-time Olympian Keegan Messing, and ice dancers Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker. Nearly 100 students from the Galleria Dallas Ice Skating Center will also dazzle the crowd with whimsical group performances.
The highlight of the show is the arrival of Missile Toes, the backflipping Santa who shoots fireworks from his skates, officially kicking off the holiday season. The grand finale features a countdown and a stunning pyrotechnic display. Fireworks have been part of the Grand Tree Lighting since 1993, with new features introduced nearly every year. Special precautions are taken for safety, including a five-year development process for Missile Toes’ colorful flame-retardant suit.
