Traditional Sushi Concept Shodo Opens In Design District

The new sushi spot comes from Route 62 Hospitality, owners of PakPao and El Bolero

A new traditional sushi concept from Route 62 Hospitality, the minds behind PakPao and El Bolero, is now open in the Design District. Shodo is focused on traditional Japanese sushi as well as unique interpretations of the classics.

“We want to provide Dallas diners a classic sushi experience," said Route 62 Hospitality Founder, Richard Ellman. "We are offering exceptionally authentic sushi made with the highest quality ingredients.”

Guests can look forward to menu items such as Wagyu Beef Tataki Sashimi, a seared A5 Tataki; the Mango Madai Crudo with Yellowtail; The Bluefin Tuna Tower; and the luxurious Shodo Roll made with Lobster, A5 Wagyu and truffle scallion. Another standout on the menu is Inari, a traditional sushi with sushi rice stuffed inside deep-fried tofu pockets.

To pair, the beverage menu offers fresh Japanese flavor profiles. Guests can try cocktails such as the Geisha Martini with Haku vodka, yuzu, and Lilet Blanc; the Myoga Old Fashioned with Toki Whiskey, bitters, ginger and orange; and the Yuzu Margarita with Tequila Herradura, Yuzuri, agave and lime. There is also an extensive, thoughtfully selected sake and Japanese whiskey menu along with a broad wine list.

The word “Shodo” means the art of ancient Japanese calligraphy. The 4,000 square foot space emphasizes the authenticity and purity of the concept with the bar and a few other areas showcasing samurai culture, nods to ancient culture including artwork in the bathrooms, a private omakase room with a zen and buddha theme, and a large, striking snow monkey mural with a nod to Jigokudani, a small town in Tokyo where they live.

The main dining room offers seating for 60, bar seating for 20, 10 seats at the sushi bar, an omakase room with 12 seats and a private dining room for up to 40 people. The omakase room allows guests to enjoy special curated coursed dinners within the privacy of their own room.

Shodo is now open for dinner. To make reservations call 214-764-2961. Shodo is located at 1628 Oak Lawn Ave #110, Dallas, TX 75207.
