Pitas are delicious. But not all pitas are built the same. Some are good, but others are great, and if you are looking for the most pillowy and most delicious one in The Colony, good news!  You've found it.

Mediterranean restaurant Miznon opened its newest location last month at The Shacks Dining & Dog Park in The Colony, about a ten-minute drive from Legacy West. The first North Texas location opened earlier this spring in Dallas' Deep Ellum.

What’s Miznon

Founded in Tel Aviv in 2011 by Israel's most celebrated chef Eyal Shani, Miznon street food locations are now found in cities across the globe, including Paris, Vienna, Melbourne, Singapore, Las Vegas, London and New York City.  Following the success of its Texas debut in Deep Ellum, Miznon’s new spot in The Colony is one of only seven U.S. locations.

Miznon, a favorite with food critics, is known for its baby cauliflower, steamed and charred, and pitas, the last of which The New Yorker food critic Hannah Goldfield wrote: "It seems almost unfair to compare Miznon pita to any other pita. Miznon pita is plush, Miznon pita is pillowy — I would happily take a nap on a stack of Miznon pita."

Why You Should Go

Miznon pitas are especially fluffy, delicious and simply wonderful. The recipe is chef Shani's, but the pitas are made locally with a specialized process to ensure the same high quality and standards Miznon is known for worldwide. This approach guarantees their freshness and authenticity while maintaining consistency.

"Miznon's pitas are made with a unique recipe that combines traditional techniques with modern innovations, resulting in a pillowy texture and robust structure that perfectly complements the bold flavors of our fillings," Jude Akpunku, co-owner of Miznon Texas, tells Local Profile. "They are crafted to be soft, chewy, and durable, ensuring that they hold up even with the heartiest ingredients. This balance of quality and tradition sets them apart from conventional pitas."

The Shacks Dining & Dog Park location is very, very dog friendly. Take your four-legged friend, get some delicious Mediterranean street food and enjoy!

How The New Location Is Different

The world-famous pitas and handwritten chalk messages are still there, but what sets this Miznon apart from the Deep Ellum location is its grab-and-go format. While it’s primarily a takeout spot, it also offers both indoor and outdoor patios for those who prefer to dine in. However, unlike the Deep Ellum location, this Miznon does not feature a full bar.

What We Tried

  • Falafel burger: tomato, pickles, sour cream and spicy green pepper.
  • Chicken schnitzel pita: breaded and fried to order, tahini, sweet and spicy matbucha, pickles and lemony cream sauce
  • Ribeye minute steak pita: tahini, tomato salsa, pickles, tomato and spicy green peppers
  • World-famous baby cauliflower, salted and delicious
  • Batata: sweet potato caramelized in its own honey with sour cream, olive oil and salt

Just as at the Deep Ellum location, everything was delicious. We especially liked the grab-and-go aspect, especially if you're with a four-legged friend. This is another fantastic option at The Shacks. Even if you're not there to hang with your dog, the fast-casual takeout or eat-in options are a big plus.

"This balance of quality and tradition sets them apart from conventional pitas."

For Those With Dietary Restrictions

Miznon also has great, fresh veggie options, and vegan pitas include the lavan pita, the wild mushroom pita and the falafel pita. For gluten-friendly options, it's possible to order just the fillings, minus the pita.

Why The Colony Was Picked

"The Colony was chosen for its dynamic growth and vibrant community that aligns with Miznon’s vision of creating a welcoming, lively dining experience," says Akpunku. "The area’s diverse demographics and proximity to bustling neighborhoods made it an ideal location to introduce Miznon’s Mediterranean-inspired cuisine to North Texas. It also serves as a gateway to expand our presence in the Dallas metro area."

According to Akpunku, the reaction in The Colony has been "overwhelmingly positive," adding, "Many customers have commented on the sense of community and warmth they feel at Miznon, making it a standout addition to the local dining scene."

Miznon is located at 5808 Windhaven Pkwy #100 in The Colony. As of writing, they are open Tuesday to Sunday. We thank Miznon for hosting and treating us.
