A Match Made In Heaven: BOSS Takes Over Monarch Stag During The Dallas Open

Visit until Feb. 9 when the Dallas Open leaves Frisco

The Dallas Open is in full swing in Frisco, and BOSS, the official tournament partner, not only transformed The Star with a series of exclusive pop-up retail shops but also with a temporary takeover of one of its bars Monarch Stag.

Rebranded Breakpoint by BOSS, the transformed Monarch Stag eschews its Mad Men-style, upscale hunting lodge vibes for high-end tennis fashion. Trading the taxidermy stag on the fireplace for tennis rackets, the bar now serves up BOSS branding.

Serving A Great Experience

From the moment you enter Monarch Stag, you're greeted by the unmistakable presence of BOSS: The brand’s signature touch of timeless sophistication is everywhere, offering guests a taste of an elevated luxury experience.

The restaurant’s grand fireplace is a striking display, filled with tennis balls, rackets and vibrant portraits of tennis legends, creating a distinctive fusion of sport and art. BOSS-branded matchbooks and coasters are thoughtfully placed throughout the space

Fantastic Dining And BOSS Drinks

The drinks at Monarch Stag are always good. You can still order a glass of any of the impressive, desirable spirits behind the bar. Breakpoint by BOSS kicks off the takeover with the tennis-themed cocktail menu was an experience in itself, featuring drinks like the Taylor spritz (get it?) — named after world No. 4 tennis player Taylor Fritz, who even made a surprise appearance to serve some drinks this past weekend.

While not listed on the menu, guests can also order a spicy margarita, which Fritz crafted during his visit.

When truffle fries are on the menu it’s an easy decision, but our server insisted we also try the wagyu beef bites to eat with the fries. If you’re into beef, especially wagyu, we cannot recommend this duo enough. The beef arrives sizzling on a hot stone plate, accompanied by sautéed onions and peppers, while the fries are perfectly coated in parmesan. (Trust me, dipping those fries in the peppercorn sauce served with the steak will completely change your life.)

Another must-try is the bourbon backspin, made with Jim Beam 7-Year, lemon, simple syrup, crème de cassis and bitters. In tennis, a backspin creates a slow, low bounce, and this cocktail delivers its own surprise. Even as someone who isn’t usually a fan of bourbon, it’s a drink I’d happily order again — maybe even make it my new “grown-up” drink.

Grand Slam Entrées

The first main course we indulged in was the French dip, a Monarch Stag favorite. It features tender slices of meat and irresistibly soft bread. And let’s not even talk about the au jus — it’s practically drinkable.

For anyone looking to take a break from the meat-heavy dishes, the spicy rigatoni alla vodka is a no-brainer. I chose to skip the pancetta, but the al dente pasta paired with fresh chopped basil was absolutely dream-worthy.

Game, Set, Match: A Cigar Nightcap

What better way to end your evening? Photo: Michelle Rice Photography

Before you wrap up your evening, make sure to step into Monarch Stag’s exclusive private cigar lounge. At just $18 for a BOSS-branded cigar, it’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else.

As someone who’s relatively new to cigars, I was impressed by how attentive and knowledgeable the staff is — they go out of their way to guide you through the experience, even providing a list of their personal favorite cigars.

Our server, after guiding us through the cigar selection process and offering expert recommendations, expertly cuts our chosen cigar with a precise V-cut. The skillful technique enhances the smoking experience, ensuring the perfect draw and allowing the flavors to fully unfold.

Plus, you can also purchase to take home — it's the perfect opportunity to discover something new, and with Valentine’s Day around the corner, it could also make for an unforgettable gift.

Whether you're looking to treat yourself or find the perfect gift, the curated selection offers something for every taste. Plus, with the limited-edition items available, you can take home a unique piece of the Dallas Open and BOSS.

Through Feb. 9, 2025, BOSS is offering other exclusive experiences, including a BOSS Shop featuring a limited-edition BOSS x Dallas Cowboys capsule collection and unique Dallas Open merchandise.

Monarch Stag is located at 6655 Winning Dr Suite 600, Frisco. We thank the restaurant for hosting and treating us.
