Capital One announced that it is hosting a college prep and savings event for North Texas-based high school students on Oct. 11, 2023.
For the event, the banking company invited more than 150 students from Dallas ISD, Plano ISD and surrounding high schools to its new Capital One Cafe, located at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco.
"At Capital One, we believe people deserve to feel confident, capable, and in control when it comes to their money," a statement from Capital One read. "That’s why we recently announced our partnership with Khan Academy to deliver a financial literacy course that breaks down complex financial concepts to help close the financial literacy gap. This free course includes a unit on careers and education that demystifies the cost of college education and how to prepare for it."
While there, students and their families/caretakers will get to enjoy a variety of food and beverage offerings, while also learning about the importance of savings and other college-related information from a panel of experts.
Khan Academy — a nonprofit education company that has partnered with Capital One for the event — will be delivering a financial literacy course, breaking down complex financial concepts for the students in attendance.
In addition to Khan Academy, the event will also feature representatives from the National College Attainment Network (NCAN), as well as numerous Texas colleges and universities — including Paul Quinn College, The University of Texas at Dallas, Collin College and more — who will all provide helpful information to attendees.
The informative activation is an extension of Capital One’s Impact Initiative, a program that aims to help learners of all ages build a strong foundation for their financial future.
The event is scheduled to take place from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital One Cafe can be found on the first floor of Stonebriar Centre at 2601 Preston Road beside the Banana Republic.
