Plano Public Library was recently awarded two grants totaling $90,000 to enhance services for patrons and preserve Plano’s rich history.

A special projects grant will fund the installation of lockers at the Sam Johnson Recreation Center for adults over 50, allowing patrons to conveniently pick up held library materials. Library cardholders can place items on hold and pick them up at any of the five Plano libraries, with the library app simplifying the process.

Additionally, a TexTreasures grant will support the digitization of 38,500 pages of the Plano Star Courier (beginning from 1904) from the library’s microfilm collection. The Genealogy Center at Plano Public Library offers extensive document and image collections, premium online resources like Ancestry Library Edition and specialized staff to assist with local, national and international research. Year-round classes cater to researchers of all levels.

Both projects are funded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services through a grant to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant #LS-256843-OLS-24).

Plano Public Library has received annual accreditation from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission since 1974. The library offers lifelong learning opportunities, allowing patrons to check out books, STEAM kits, bookpacks, Launchpads and DVDs, as well as download eBooks, magazines, newspapers and stream movies. Programs are available for families, kids, teens, adults and seniors, covering a range of topics from storytimes to starting a business.
