McKinney’s parks are fantastic, and now they’re getting even better. The city recently completed two major neighborhood park improvement projects and began construction on a unique illuminated trail experience at Towne Lake Park.

These enhancements were made possible with support from the McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC), along with funding from parkland dedication funds and city bonds.

EA Randles Park at 3380 Ash Lane officially reopened, unveiling a stunning transformation that turns it into a must-visit community hub. The park now features a brand-new basketball court, a refreshing splash pad, upgraded play equipment, a spacious pavilion, expanded parking and a connected trail system — perfect for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

This $4 million renovation was primarily funded by the MCDC, with additional support from parkland dedication funds and city bonds, according to McKinney Senior Media and Public Relations Manager Denise Lessard.

Aviator Park’s Renovations Are Complete

Aviator Park, located at 1201 Monticello Dr., is now more accessible and inclusive, ensuring all children can play and explore together. The $500,000 upgrade introduced new play structures, modern site furnishings and enhanced safety surfacing made of artificial turf and pour-in-place materials. Additionally, shade structures now cover the swings and basketball court benches, providing extra comfort for kiddos and adults alike.

"Supporting projects like these is at the heart of MCDC's mission to invest in quality-of-life initiatives that benefit the entire community," said MCDC Board Chair Angela Richardson Woods. "We're proud to help bring these exciting, family-friendly amenities to life and to see the lasting impact they will have on McKinney's neighborhoods and public spaces."

Construction Begins On McKinney Light Walk

Work officially began on the McKinney Light Walk, a one-of-a-kind illuminated trail experience set to transform Towne Lake Park. This artistic installation will feature a glowing concrete pathway, offering an immersive and creative way for residents and visitors to enjoy the park after dark. Expected to be completed by year’s end, the project is made possible through funding from the MCDC, parkland dedication funds and city bonds.

"These projects reflect our commitment to creating inclusive and inspiring spaces that enhance the quality of life for all McKinney residents," said Director of Parks and Recreation Amy Kinkade. "With support from MCDC, we've been able to bring new energy to neighborhood parks and reimagine how our community can connect through outdoor spaces, day or night."
