Literature enthusiasts now have an exciting opportunity to connect with local authors from North Texas, and aspiring writers can elevate their skills while networking with industry professionals at the inaugural McKinney Literary Fest.

The event, set for Aug. 17-18 at the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library, will be hosted by the McKinney Public Library System.

"The response to our inaugural literary fest has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting a significant need in our community,” Director of the McKinney Public Library System Spencer Smith said in a statement. “While established authors with major publishing contracts have their platforms, our festival is filling a crucial gap by providing a stage for self-published authors and those aspiring to secure a book deal.”

The day’s events will give book lovers the chance to meet and interact with over 60 local writers and authors. The day will begin with a keynote address from Dave Lieber, a local investigative columnist for The Dallas Morning News, and will feature several author readings throughout the day. The event will conclude with a post-event reception from 4 to 5 p.m. at The Comedy Arena, offering networking and mingling with featured authors.

Sunday's program is designed for aspiring authors, writers and anyone interested in the book industry. The day will include multiple panel discussions with industry experts and accomplished authors, covering topics like publishing and creative writing. Sessions on freelance writing, memoir and fiction writing will offer valuable insights and practical guidance. Additionally, hands-on workshops will help participants enhance their skills, knowledge and confidence as writers.

"We are proud to support our local authors and give them a stage to share their work. We're already planning for next year and hope to extend the invite to other local and regional authors to be a part of this event,” Smith said. “Our community's enthusiasm reinforces the importance of supporting and celebrating local literary voices."
