The Plano Police Department recently announced the death of one of their patrol service dogs, Zen, who retired in 2019.
From 2013 to 2019, K-9 Zen dedicated his service to the department, delivering outstanding assistance to the residents of Plano and collaborating effectively with neighboring agencies.
“K9 Zen was more than just a service dog; he was a hero,” Plano police said in a statement.
Throughout his tenure, Zen's exceptional sense of smell and adept street patrolling skills resulted in multiple successful discoveries of narcotics and incidents while on patrol.
One noteworthy accomplishment shared by the police department occurred during a demanding pursuit, where K9 Officer R. Jackson and Zen worked together to apprehend one of Arkansas' most sought-after fugitives. K9 Zen played a crucial role in locating and facilitating the arrest of the fugitive, showcasing his invaluable contributions to law enforcement efforts.
K-9 Officer Jackson of the Plano police fondly recalls Zen as a committed partner, safeguarding the community together, often sharing moments over a bag of Twizzlers and engaging in meaningful conversations. Zen's service and dedication remain etched in memory, and he will forever be honored and remembered by both the department and the community.
"Godspeed to my ever-vigilant partner,” Officer Jackson said. “Your presence is already missed.”
