Across major U.S. cities, a median of 12.5% of workers work from home, with some cities seeing up to 30% remote workers and others remaining mostly in-person. Factors like local industries, infrastructure and demographics influence this variation.

But some cities such as Frisco, have a large amount of remote workers, affecting demand for food, transportation and amenities while freeing up time and budgets for remote workers.

Frisco Ranks No. 1

According to a study by SmartAsset, in Frisco, 34.16% of the workforce, or 40,029 out of 117,193 individuals aged 16 and older, work remotely — accounting for more than one-third of all workers.

While Frisco moved to the top spot from last year’s No. 2 position, its overall numbers decreased year on year. As Local Profile previously reported, 46,381 Frisco workers were remote in 2024 — over 6,000 more than in 2025.

The pandemic forced a global shift to remote work, supported by new technological innovations that made it the preferred option for many U.S. employees. This change sparked a surge in domestic migration, as workers no longer tied to office locations could choose where to live without considering lengthy commutes.

Even though homes in Frisco can be more expensive compared to other North Texas cities, North Texas has been a top destination for remote workers, valued for its relatively low cost of living, favorable climate and safety. With the new addition of Fields, Universal Studios on the way, PGA Frisco and Dallas just a short drive away, there are endless ways to stay entertained. While migration is slowing as companies recall employees to the office, the influx of businesses relocating to the area suggests the real estate market will remain strong, even as remote workers gradually return to in-person roles.

The region area is rapidly attracting residents, with 25 Fortune 500 companies headquartered in DFW alone, many located in suburbs like Frisco, providing ample job opportunities.

Methodology

This study analyzed 349 large U.S. cities with populations of 100,000 or more, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2023 1-Year American Community Survey. Cities were ranked based on the percentage of workers aged 16 and older who work from home.
