Plano isn't only a corporate hub for companies like Toyota, PepsiCo and Bank of America, it's also becoming a manufacturing one. Taiwan-based Delta Electronics, which is a major supplier of power components to Tesla and Apple, is expanding its manufacturing plant in Plano. According to the city, this could be the biggest manufacturing investment in Plano ever.
Big Plans For Plano
The city of Plano reached a major milestone in its pursuit of attracting world-class manufacturers of next-generation technologies. Delta Electronics, a global leader in power management and IoT-based smart green solutions, announced plans to further expand its Plano campus.
“We believe it is the biggest manufacturing investment in Plano," Steve Stoler told Local Profile.
Delta Electronics is expanding on Lotus Drive with two new construction phases. Phase 2 adds a 477,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and a 90,000-square-foot office, while Phase 3 includes another 477,000-square-foot facility. The current 435,000-square-foot facility at 601 Data Drive serves as an R&D center and manufacturing hub. By 2031, Delta’s Plano facilities will span nearly 1.5 million square feet and employ over 1,500 people.
“Our fast-growing manufacturing campus in Texas is a testament to Delta Electronics’ commitment to our U.S. customers to provide them with ‘Made in the USA’ solutions capable of fostering energy conservation and sustainable development,” Delta Electronics’ Chairman and CEO Ping Cheng said in an official statement. “From 2010 to 2023, Delta’s high-efficiency products and solutions helped our customers worldwide save over 45.5 billion kWh of electricity, enough to power the state of Texas for nearly one month.”
How Plano Was Chosen
After evaluating multiple sites across several states in a competitive selection process, Delta Electronics ultimately chose Plano as the ideal location.
"We are incredibly excited to welcome the expansion of Delta Electronics to Plano,” Plano Mayor John Muns said. “We understand how critical it can be to choose a location for a company’s operation, especially one of this size, and feel proud that Delta Electronics agrees that Plano offers the resources and partnership to build a lasting relationship.”
Growing Manufacturing In Plano
Austin has been known as a major technology city — but North Texas has long been in the race to increase its tech presence. Perot Systems Corporation for example, founded in 1988 by a group of investors led by Ross Perot, was an information technology services company headquartered in Plano. Dallas-based Texas Instruments (TI) has also been a major manufacturer for North Texas since it opened in 1930.
Recent manufacturing developments in Plano include SK Signet, which is now operational with its ultra-fast EV charger manufacturing facility, and Sysgration, an electronics manufacturer set to begin construction this year. Additionally, Virtex, specializing in various technology manufacturing, recently expanded its presence in Plano.
“We have had a good history of strong manufacturing companies who have been here for many years such as Regal Research and Stewart Systems,” Stoler said.
The investment in manufacturing will not only bring jobs to the area, but, according to Stoler will create a “ripple effect” for other companies to follow.
