Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO) has designated The Colony a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. After completing the program's multi-step certification process, The Colony joins an initiative designed to boost music-related economic development and job creation.

“Congratulations to the city of The Colony on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” Governor Abbott said in an official statement. “Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music Friendly Texas Communities certified by the TMO work tirelessly to attract and develop the local music industry to boost local job creation and economic growth.”

What Is A Music-Friendly Certified Community?

The Colony became the 66th city to achieve designation as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community, joining cities such as Frisco and McKinney.

Beyond certifications, TMO acts as a hub for Texas music industry information, bridges communication between music businesses and government, highlights key industry milestones and attracts vital music enterprises to Texas.

Why Is This Important?

The thriving music industry in Texas not only creates local jobs but also draws global visitors, attracts a skilled workforce across sectors, and bolsters business recruitment and expansion efforts statewide.

“This designation as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community reflects our city's cultural spirit and unity fostered through music,” said The Colony City Manager Troy Powell. “From annual events like Liberty by the Lake to the robust schedule of free concerts throughout the year on the lawn at Grandscape, plus the exciting schedule at Lava Cantina, The Colony is creating memorable, uplifting experiences for citizens and visitors to share.”
