Plano’s newest comedy venue, Mic Drop Comedy, made a spectacular debut with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that drew attention for its refreshing twist on the typical comedy club experience.

Taking over the space previously known as Plano House of Comedy, the remodeled venue promises a unique blend of comedy, customer service and food offerings that set it apart from the competition.

A New Experience For Comedy Lovers

Located in the Legacy North district at The Shops at Legacy, Mic Drop Comedy Plano features a creative ambiance co-owner Hillary Hutson describes as “Robin Hood meets Burning Man.” With artistic touches, including arrows through Robin Hood’s cap and graffiti-covered walls, the venue captivates guests with its playful atmosphere.

The club’s revamped approach also stands out with its no-two-drink minimum policy. In fact, if you purchase a non-alcoholic beverage, you’ll receive a free ticket to a future show, making it an inviting option for everyone, regardless of their drinking preferences.

Guests can sip on the “pops of lavender lemonade,” a refreshing blend of lemonade, lavender syrup and a splash of Sprite with a purple sugar rim, or the “strawberry burlesque,” made with Gosling’s ginger beer, lime juice, strawberry syrup and a cherry and lime garnish. For coffee lovers, the “booze-less cold brew martini” offers a nitro-infused, dairy-free treat.

“We don’t want people to feel like they have to drink,” says Hutson. “We wanted to create a space where people can come and enjoy comedy, no matter their drinking habits.”

The Vision Behind Mic Drop Comedy

Hutson, who recently relocated from Arizona, shares that the duo’s goal is to elevate both the comedy and customer service experience. Co-owner Casey Currier, who remains in Arizona, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing their commitment to offering high-quality food and drinks. They are even planning to introduce brunch and comedy classes for both kids and adults.

“This is an artist commune,” says Currier, “where we want to provide a creative space for both audiences and performers.”

The Robin Hood Theme

The club’s Robin Hood theme adds an extra layer of nostalgia and uniqueness, with fun design elements such as wanted posters featuring famous comedians like Andrew Dice Clay, who was the first stand-up comedian to sell out Madison Square Garden for two consecutive nights. Mic Drop Comedy’s sister locations, in San Diego and Chandler, Arizona, also have playful themes — Alice in Wonderland and Snow White, respectively — but the Plano venue’s Robin Hood motif stands out for its adventurous spirit.

For Those With Dietary Restrictions

Mic Drop Comedy Plano offers a diverse menu that caters to various dietary preferences, including vegan and vegetarian options. The club's offerings stand out in the area, providing guests with choices beyond the usual bar fare.

The venue ensures everyone can enjoy dinner and a show without compromising on flavor or preference. Its menu highlights gluten-free (GF) options, including garlic fried rice, loaded quinoa salad and tweedles — crispy house-made tortilla chips served with salsa roja and queso. Many dishes, such as the Asian crunchy salad and Buddha plate, can also be tailored to meet vegan or vegetarian preferences.

In addition to gluten-free options, the club offers pescatarian dishes like blackened shrimp tacos and San Diego street corn, making it a welcoming spot for diverse diets.

Already making waves with major comedians like Jiaoying Summers, who performed during the opening, Mic Drop Comedy Plano will feature notable acts like Preacher Lawson, a comedian who skyrocketed to fame on America’s Got Talent and continues to captivate audiences with his energetic humor; Ginger Billy, a comedian and internet sensation known for his hilarious redneck antics, viral sketches and storytelling that celebrates Southern life and simple pleasures; Rachel Feinstein, a nationally touring comedian and actress known for her sharp observations, with credits including Life and Beth on Hulu, Parental Advisory on Netflix and a WGA Award-winning stint on Inside Amy Schumer; and Kevin Nealon, a comedian and actor, best known for his time on Saturday Night Live and roles in Weeds, Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer. The club is expected to continue drawing in top names from the comedy world, thanks to Hutson and Currier’s extensive industry connections.
