Being 60 years of age or older has its perks — especially at the State Fair of Texas. That’s because every Thursday is Senior Day. That means seniors enjoy free admission to all the fun in Fair Park.

Even better, every Thursday is also Thrifty Thursday! On Thursday October 4, 11, and 18, you can enjoy special food pricing on State Fair classics like corny dogs, cotton candy and funnel cakes. In addition, you can also save on one of the signature menu items at participating food vendors. Visit BigTex.com for a complete list of Thrifty Thursday specials.

From pig races, fried foods and Creative Arts entries to concerts, football games and Midway action, the State Fair has loads of fun waiting for you. This year’s fair — themed “Celebrating Texas Innovation” — runs through Sunday, October 21.

DART Reduces Fares for Seniors

Best of all, DART has a blue-ribbon ride ready to take you straight to the front gate! Seniors 65 or older (with a valid DART photo ID) can take advantage of a Reduced fare, which is valid on all DART, TRE, Trinity Metro and DCTA trains and buses. The cost for a Reduced Local Day Pass is just $3.

To get a DART Senior Photo ID, visit the DART Store at Akard Station. Photo IDs are made Monday-Friday, 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. only. You must bring proof of age such as a driver’s license, passport or other substantiating documentation, and there is a $2 fee to cover the cost of the photo.

Simplify Your Commute to Fair Park

Getting to Fair Park on DART is simple. The Green Line serves Fair Park Station (at the fairgrounds’ main entrance) and MLK, Jr. Station (convenient to the Gate 6 fairground entrance and the Cotton Bowl). From downtown Dallas, board a Green Line train marked “BUCKNER”, “LAWNVIEW” or “FAIR PARK.” When you’re ready to head home, simply reverse your trip and return the same way you came.

Two helpful reminders: First, free parking is available at many DART facilities. Second, take advantage of level boarding. On DART Rail, the center section of each train offers platform-level boarding — perfect for those with accessibility needs — plus additional floor space. DART buses also have low-floor sections and are equipped with ramps that deploy for level boarding from the curb.

Ride Easy with the GoPass® App

Can’t make it on a Thursday? You can still save $2 on State Fair admission by purchasing your ticket through the GoPass® app. You can purchase DART passes and fair tickets all from the convenience of your phone. NOTE: Wait to activate your DART passes or fair admission until the day of your visit.
