Many big music stars have risen from Texas: Willie Nelson, Beyoncé, Selena, Buddy Holly, George Strait, Kelly Clarkson, Erykah Badu, Selena Gomez, and Miranda Lambert are all among the huge number of musicians, songwriters and superstars who with Texas roots. With a state this big, there’s room for all. There are many great restaurants with live music. LSA Burger in Denton prefers to be considered a live music venue serving great food. Additionally, when there isn’t a live Texas band onstage, the only music being played at LSA Burger was made by Texans. It’s the cornerstone of LSA Burger. That’s what makes it cool.

LSA stands for Lone Star Attitude and there’s plenty of it to be found on the rooftop patio, along with a stage and a stunning view of downtown Denton. On one wall, local artists have painted all sorts of different murals side by side, each incredibly unique. Every so often there’s a painting day and the murals are redone. The waitstaff tours around in either LSA Burger shirts or concert shirts from Texan performers. Located in the heart of a college town, LSA attracts a lot of musicians, artists and creatives. Pretty much everyone on staff is supporting some kind of artistic passion. When it comes to the live performances, most people expect country music, but musicians of all kinds are welcome onstage, from Rockabilly to funk bands, ‘70s cover bands and polka.

What to make of McKinney’s American Idol, Harper Grace

Order up a bit of Attitude. At LSA, it comes served in a bulbous glass, tri-colored and as frosty as a December day. It’s also very boozy, so approach with caution. If you’re in for a long evening on a patio, it’s just the thing, but it’s a big commitment. More freewheeling souls might prefer the No Commitment Flight, which lets them get a taste of six margaritas in miniature: white peach, blood orange, pomegranate, strawberry, prickly pear and mixed berry.

Brisket queso is probably one of the most Texas things we’ve ever been blessed with and it’s everything. Order a shareable platter of garlic parm fries with a house aioli dipping sauce that whispers of horseradish. Indulge in LSA’s creative burgers, ambitious enough to push the boundaries of the bun. Case in point: the Double Trouble has two patties sandwiching melting havarti and Copperhead Lode cheeses, guacamole and a sprinkling of Fritos.

The Ready Freddy isn’t flashy, but might be best thanks to its Dr Pepper barbecue sauce, cheddar, bacon, griddled onions and pickles. It’s flat and squat compared to the rest of the menu, and will win no awards for beauty. But it wins all the awards for taste and perfect harmony.

Finish off with Willie’s Stash, a fish bowl full of cake and fudge brownies, ice cream from Beth Marie’s, the parlor down the street, pretzels, heavy caramel rivers. Afterward, roll around, holding your stomach and marvel that you survived such rich food in such great quantities. It’s an accomplishment.
