August is is brimming with activities, including the Summer Olympics. We’ve got the scoop, highlighting WOGA gymnast and reigning World Champion Madison Kocian and her quest to grab gold. We also spoke to gold medalist Carly Patterson who’s been there, done that…12 years ago. Carly and her husband Mark reside in North Texas and are hoping to start a family soon.
Speaking of family, there is one family in North Texas that has touched the lives of many by their nonprofit, Leighton’s Gift, which provides cameras in hospital NICUs. Parents can monitor their newborn, even from hundreds of miles away.
We value our hospitals and caretakers. Texas Healthy Presbyterian Plano is celebrating 25 years and provided us with some success stories that you’ll find interesting. Check them out.
August also means—you guessed it—back to school! Families are taking last-minute vacations to soak up the summer sun before the kids are back in the books (or iPads). When you’re out shopping for school supplies and clothes, please consider donating to Operation School Bell.
It is one of the most exciting times to be in Plano, not only because of the new McCall Plaza and downtown area becoming an arts district, but also because of what’s happening on the opposite side of town. By now, you’ve heard of the $3 billion, 255-acre Legacy West development—the largest mixed-use development in the state. Well, a triple-decker foodie paradise called Legacy Hall will open this time next year boasting two dozen artisan food stalls, a fast-casual restaurant, and a craft brewery. It will be the first food halls of its kind in DFW!
Have you noticed how dynamic our Food & Drink section is? New restaurants keep popping up in Plano! Check out our New Eats, then discover where the Divas dined out, and what Plano gem makes Central Market’s baklawa. All this reading will make you wanna cool off with a frozen watermelon margarita.
Enjoy!
