Voting is now open for the 2024 Scenic City People's Choice Award, an initiative recognizing the beauty and environmental efforts of Texas communities. From July 2 through Sept. 20, Texans are invited to cast their votes for their favorite Certified Texas Scenic City, recognizing the local communities that have prioritized visual appeal and environmental harmony.

This annual contest, organized by Scenic Texas, honors cities across the state that have demonstrated a commitment to preserving and enhancing their natural beauty. Among the contenders are Celina, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, Prosper and Richardson, each vying for recognition as a Certified Texas Scenic City.

Voting in the People's Choice Contest is straightforward but limited to one vote per IP address. Participants can cast their vote by selecting their preferred scenic city from a list provided by Scenic Texas. Once a vote is cast, the screen will change colors to confirm submission.

Scenic Texas, a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the state’s visual environment, was inspired by the legacy of Lady Bird Johnson, whose efforts in the 1960s led to the passage of the Highway Beautification Act.

According to the official website, Johnson’s vision extended beyond mere aesthetics; she sought to create harmony between the natural and man-made worlds. Her legacy lives on through organizations like Scenic Texas, which continues her mission by advocating for the beautification of roadways and communities across the state.

Scenic Texas urges the communities to vote, as this will help recognize the scenic qualities that make Texas cities unique and support ongoing efforts to preserve the area’s natural beauty amid its rapid development.
