Plano officers excel in various events, securing 14 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze

In a Facebook post, the Plano Police Department announced the department won 21 medals at this year's Texas Police Games in DeSoto, Texas. This annual event, organized by the Texas Police Athletic Federation, encourages physical fitness and technical skill development among law enforcement officers across the state.

Officer Evans led the department's impressive performance, securing three gold medals in cycling events. Evans dominated the mountain bike, road and gravel races, outpacing competitors across all age groups.

Detective Kranz earned eight medals, including six golds in patrol rifle, precision rifle, and three gun events. He won gold in both the 40-49 age category and overall. He also secured a silver medal in the pistol event for his age group and a bronze in the overall pistol category.

Detective Hoffman demonstrated versatility and athleticism by winning eight medals across various events. Hoffman earned gold in martial arts fighting and kata and the 400m, long jump, and shot put events within his category. Additionally, he secured silver medals in the 100m, 200m and discus events.

The men's basketball team, consisting of officers Moreland, Mings, Palka, Scharlau, Curl, Beckelman, Maxey, Hamilton, Sadler, Swain and guest player K. Kohl, also contributed to the medal count. The team won a bronze medal in the 5v5 basketball event and a silver medal in the 3-point contest.

The Texas Police Games began in 1966 in California and were introduced to Texas in 1968-69 by Dallas Police Officer Anthony Risner. The Texas Police Athletic Federation was established in 1974, and participation has grown significantly, with over 1,200 officers competing annually.

These games provide a platform for law enforcement officers to enhance physical conditioning, foster camaraderie, and engage in friendly competition. The TPAF board of directors continues to promote these objectives, ensuring the games' success and officers' well-being statewide. Next year's Texas Police Games will be in Corpus Christi, Texas.
