The Frisco Police Department invites the public to its National Police Week Memorial Ceremony on May 9 at 3:00 pm. The event, held at the memorial in front of the Frisco Police Department building (7200 Stonebrook), aims to honor fallen law enforcement members.
Observed annually in May, National Police Week was established in 1962 by President Kennedy, who proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. It pays tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of law enforcement officers nationwide who have lost their lives in the line of duty, serving and protecting others.
This year, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund will oversee ceremonies, including the 36th Annual Candlelight Vigil, honoring officers recently added to the Memorial.
Many more events will take place before the official dates of National Police Week, May 12-18, 2024. The observance's principal organizer, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, has events on its website starting Thursday, May 9.
Nationwide, law enforcement agencies and other state memorial funds will be holding their own services recognizing peace officers who have recently died.
