Celebrate season 10 for the nonprofit Children’s Chorus of Collin County as they present “How Can I Keep From Singing?” 7 p.m., May 9 at the Eisemann Center.
The Chorus’ 121 collective voices of young North Texans make up the three total choruses who will perform a selection of music promoting songs chosen by Janie Oliver, founder and director. Song selections include, “If Music Be the Food of Love,” There is Sweet Music Here,” and “Musica Dei.”
Bonus performers will be the 2016 Plano Symphony Orchestra’s Collin County Young Artist Competition winners. Find out all about the winners, a cellist and two pianists, here.
Auditions for the 2016–2017 Chorus season are now being scheduled. For more information or to schedule an audition, visit ChildrensChorusofCollinCounty.org.
Children’s Chorus of Collin County
The Chorus is an auditioned group of boys and girls comprising superior musical and vocal skills, enthusiasm for choral performance, and a strong desire to be a part of a growing group of talented youth. Each of the three choruses are broken up by grade level and also have their own conductor. Jennifer McKee conducts the Prelude choir (grades 3–5); Janie Oliver conducts the Children’s choir (grades 6–8); and Emmanuel Espiritu conducts the Youth choir (grades 9–12).
This group of multi-talented children and youth amazes and astounds audiences with their special talents. Within the group, there are budding songwriters, talented instrumentalists, actors who perform regularly in their community theaters, and many talented soloists who perform individually in local and even national settings. The Children’s Chorus of Collin County is led by Artistic Director and Co-Founder Janie Oliver, and is sponsored in part by the City of Plano.
