Kaleidoscope Park officially opened to the public with a celebration on Oct. 4, 2024, highlighted by a weekend of community events.

The park, made possible through a collaboration between the city of Frisco, Communities Foundation of Texas and Hall Park, is set to become a cultural hub for the region, offering a mix of art, wellness and entertainment.

During the event, several key figures took the stage to express their gratitude to those who made the project possible. "We’re so glad to see so many teams here representing everyone who worked so hard on the park," said Executive Director of Kaleidoscope Park Shawn Jackson. Special thanks were given to those behind the scenes, including Andrea Palaszczyk, Kelly Vaughn, Donna Carr and Barbara Milo, who were recognized for their month-long efforts in organizing the event.

Donors also played a critical role in bringing Kaleidoscope Park to life. Capital One and Baylor Scott & White were named as major sponsors, alongside H-E-B, who sponsored Emerald City’s performance the following day. The opening weekend’s activities included morning yoga sessions, a petting zoo, a farmer’s market and performances by the Frisco Youth Symphony and Plano Symphony Orchestra.

Honorable Florence Shapiro, former state senator and the chair of the board for Kaleidoscope Park, addressed the audience, emphasizing the park’s significance. "We believe this will be one of the most amazing opportunities and environments anywhere in North Texas," she said, praising Jackson’s leadership, who according to Shapiro, was instrumental in bringing the park to fruition. Shapiro also recognized the essential contributions of Craig Hall, the park’s developer, whose vision helped lay the foundation for this unique public-private partnership.

"We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Craig Hall," Shapiro said, praising the collaborative efforts between the park foundation, the city of Frisco, Hall Park and the Communities Foundation of Texas. "This park is a prime example of a successful public-private partnership, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see it all come together."

“This is a gift to the entire region,” Shapiro added, highlighting the park’s role as a regional space that combines art, culture, and nature. The park features a variety of attractions, including North Texas’s largest children’s play area and a performing arts lawn, which will host events throughout the year. Kaleidoscope Park’s programming will include up to 150 days of events annually, offering opportunities for residents and visitors alike to engage with the space.

Shapiro concluded her speech by encouraging donations, noting that the park’s future programming relies heavily on community support. The Friends of the Park program allows individuals and organizations to contribute, with options starting at $100. "We hope you’ll all join us as we continue to build and sustain this incredible new public space," she said.

“Kaleidoscope Park has benefited from the leadership of Jeff Cheney. He's a visionary, he's a leader, and as you can tell, obviously, the key component in any organization is always the leader,” said Shapiro.

Mayor Jeff Cheney of Frisco also shared his enthusiasm for the project. "Kaleidoscope Park is a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration," he said during his speech.

The evening culminated with a drone show by Sky Elements and the unveiling of Janet Echelman’s public art installation, Butterfly Rest Stop.

Situated near the Dallas North Tollway at Warren Parkway in Frisco, Texas, Kaleidoscope Park spans six acres and enjoys close proximity to prominent attractions such as The Star, Stonebriar Centre, Legacy West, The Shops at Legacy, The Boardwalk and Granite Park.

The park is also part of a larger development including residential, hotel, office, and dining spaces, designed to enhance the community's landscape. More information about the park and its upcoming programs can be found at kaleidoscopepark.org.
