The annual Frisco Community Parade will be canceled this year and next due to ongoing construction on Main Street through downtown, as part of the city’s Rail District redevelopment.

This annual event, a collaboration of the city of Frisco, Frisco ISD, the Chamber of Commerce and the Veterans Advisory Committee, celebrates Veterans Day and community pride. Originally a homecoming parade, it now features floats, school bands, football teams, cheerleaders, scouts, civic groups, youth sports and local businesses.

However, because of the updates to the city, the parade will be held off until 2026, when it will return even more spectacular than ever.

“We’re so excited about downtown renovation! However, the state of construction this fall makes hosting the parade on Main Street through downtown unsafe,” a statement from the city read. “As such, we’d like your support of our decision to postpone the Frisco Community Parade for the next two years.  We’ll miss the parade, too — but we look forward to an amazing, revitalized historic downtown in 2026! Is there any better way to celebrate downtown renovation than with a parade!”

In July 2024, the city began its work on the downtown revitalization project, transforming Frisco’s Rail District. The project will span from 1st to 3rd Streets and necessitate the removal of on-street parking throughout downtown.

Expected to take about 18 months and cost approximately $20 million, the initiative aligns with Frisco's broader downtown master plan adopted by the city council in 2018. Mayor Jeff Cheney underscored the city's vision to cultivate a dynamic urban core, emphasizing the creation of communal spaces and cultural venues. In addition, the comprehensive downtown renewal project, totaling over $68 million, includes enhancements beyond Main Street, such as the completion of Elm Street, the development of the 4th Street Plaza and the construction of a new parking garage.

As previously reported by Local Profile, Mayor Jeff Cheney highlighted the significance of revitalizing the downtown core during the Frisco Rail District groundbreaking ceremony. "Every world-class city has a great downtown," said Cheney. He emphasized the project's commitment to preserving the historical essence of the Rail District while infusing it with modern amenities and attractions. “This is going to be an area where life seems to slow down, where you just want to walk and stroll, go to a restaurant and shop, listen to some live music."
