At just 17, North Texas’ Walker Scheer is already a rising star in the sneaker industry, a journey that began at the age of 12.

Initially known for his prowess on the basketball court, Scheer’s life took a dramatic turn when a back injury sidelined his athletic ambitions. Rather than dwell on the setback, he channeled his energy into his other passion — sneakers. What began as a hobby, cleaning and flipping kicks, quickly transformed into a thriving business, earning him recognition well beyond his senior year at Dallas College.

In 2023, Scheer took his sneaker game to the next level by selling shoes to Sneaker Haven. That summer, he joined the store as a sales associate, working there three times a week. Along the way, he consigned shoes and forged strong bonds with the store's owners, Justin Viel and Haris Khan. Their collaboration grew so successful that they decided to take a big leap together.

This October, they’re set to open a second location at Allen’s Watters Creek shopping center, with Scheer stepping in as a 50% partner.

“Sneaker Haven's mission is to offer a retail store that continues to build hype around sneaker culture,” Watters Creek said on their website. “They provide a unique and premium shopping experience to create a community that unites sneaker and streetwear lovers.”

The initial location at 5307 E Mockingbird Ln Unit 105, Dallas, offers shoes, clothes and cleaning. Currently, brands such as Nike, Supreme, Jordan, Off-White and more are sold in-store and online.

But before exploring the new business venture, Scheer was running the enterprise from his own home. From there, he turned his sneaker business into a thriving enterprise, often managing an impressive inventory of around 300 pairs. At times, Scheer’s living room and garage are packed with as many as 600 pairs.

“I am excited to embark on a new chapter as I open my own sneaker store,” Scheer said on LinkedIn. “This venture represents a culmination of my passion for the industry and my commitment to delivering exceptional products and experiences to sneaker enthusiasts. My goal is to create a unique retail environment that reflects my dedication to quality, innovation and customer service.”
