TV Actress Returns To Home Stage For Performance In Plano, Texas

North Texas Performing Arts Repertory Theatre announced the cast and creative team for the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, including one star who made their debut on TV. 

The cast of 22 professional actors showcases talented performers from across North Texas, including NTPA alumna Amanda Reid. Reid, a 2023 graduate of the NTPA Academy, is currently making waves with her breakout role in the Apple TV+ family series, Me. Reid returns from LA to the NTPA stage to portray Mary Magdalene. In this role, Reid captivates with her powerful vocal talent and exceptional dramatic performance.

The show is set for NTPA’s Willow Bend Center of the Arts, Rodenbaugh Theatre, from July 31 to August 4, 2024. Tickets are available for purchase at ntparep.org.

Joining Reid are other talented NTPA alumni, returning and new repertory actors including:

  • Herod: Troy Murray
  • Apostles: Evan Arnold, Dakota Britvich, Giovanny Castro, Qwali Chatman, Taylor Fujihara, Tony Lopez, Jack Manno, Beau Mills, Paige Price, Paige Wenger and Ethan Yang
  • Ensemble: Hannah Hoffman, Rachel Moes, Lauren Santaella and Madelyn Arriola

The musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, Jesus Christ Superstar, has captivated audiences for over 50 years. This rock opera is set against the backdrop of universally known events, seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the story follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life, exploring the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene and His disciples and followers. The musical, based on the platinum-selling album, has garnered numerous accolades, including two Tony Awards in 1972 and five Emmy Awards in 2018 for the Jesus Christ Superstar Live television event starring John Legend.

The creative team for NTPA Repertory’s production features NTPA veteran and creative genius Director Nick Mann, award-winning Choreographer Braxton Riddles, and NTPA Repertory company favorite Music Director Billy Veer.

The runtime is 2 hours and 30 minutes, and the show is recommended for ages 10 and up. Tickets range from $20 to $32. The show runs for one weekend, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 2 p.m. A special ASL-interpreted and captioned performance will be held on Sunday, August 4, at 7:00 p.m. Recommended seating for viewing the ASL interpreter and captions is on the stage's right side.
