In the wake of this week’s storms, many North Texas residents are collecting trash, tree limbs and other debris from their neighborhoods.
According to the city of Plano, residents can drop off their storm debris to the Custer Road Transfer Station at 9901 Custer Road.
However, after the large storms traffic is expected to be heavy, with a long wait to dump debris. The transfer station has daily capacity limits. Once it reaches capacity, it must be closed. Operating hours are Monday-Saturday, 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. unless it reaches capacity earlier.
Residents of Plano, McKinney, Frisco, Richardson and Allen can dump two loads free per month with their water bill and driver's licenses. After that, and for all other cities, the charge is $20 per cubic yard with a minimum of $60.
The city is asking residents to access the facility from Coit Road. Drive north on Coit, turn right (east) onto Ridgeview Drive. Residents can’t make a left turn from Ridgeview Drive into the brush drop-off line.
Plano is also picking up debris from residents' home in the coming weeks. All yard debris properly cut and placed at either the curb or collection site will be picked as part of a two-phase, city-wide sweep. The initial sweep should be complete within 2-4 weeks. The second sweep will capture any properly staged yard debris that was not placed out for pickup on the first sweep.
Debris should be neatly stacked in piles. Each pile should be no larger than 6 feet x 4 feet x 4 feet. Place the debris piles at your regular collection point at least 2 feet from trees, fences, utility boxes, gas meters and vehicles. You can also stack debris next to your front curb. Piles should not overhang the curb into the street or onto the sidewalk.
According to the city, trash and recycling collections were not impacted by the storms, and services will continue as usual. Special paid collections are temporarily suspended. Residents will still have their regularly scheduled monthly bulky waste service. Information about the schedule, accepted items and more can be found here.
If a limb or tree is down, blocking the road/alley/sidewalk submit a fix-it request at plano.gov/fixit.
