Plano Police Recover Stolen, Unidentifiable Guns

During a weapons incident, Plano police officers discovered stolen and unidentifiable guns. Three individuals involved were arrested at the scene.

On Oct. 22, 2023, at 9:30 p.m., Plano law enforcement officers received a report of a weapons incident in the 8400 block of White Sands Drive. They were informed that a disturbance had occurred in front of a residence, and there was a potential situation involving someone being held at gunpoint.

According to police, the officers encountered four individuals outside, where it appeared that one person had recently been physically restraining another on the ground. The officers inquired about the presence of any firearms in the vicinity. Several of the individuals informed them that there was a loaded pistol atop a vehicle owned by one of them. An officer proceeded to safely unload the pistol to ensure the security of everyone at the scene.

As the officer approached the vehicle, they noticed that the passenger car door was wide open, revealing another pistol on the passenger seat alongside a black ski mask. The officer then conducted a routine computer check on both pistols.

One of the pistols was reported as stolen, whereas the other lacked any identifying markings, rendering it unverifiable through the system. These unmarked firearms fall into the category commonly referred to as privately made firearms (PMF), also known as "ghost guns." This name stems from their untraceable nature due to the absence of identifiable markers.

Once the second firearm, confirmed as stolen, was located, the officers proceeded to conduct a comprehensive search of the vehicle. Within a TV box, they discovered a short-barreled AR15 rifle (SBR) that was modified to operate as fully automatic. This rifle also lacked any identifying markings, further categorizing it as another "ghost gun." Given its design and characteristics, it was also deemed a prohibited weapon.

Three out of the four individuals were apprehended by the officers on charges of disorderly conduct. Among the three, two faced additional charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon, theft of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Given the gravity of the situation and the discovery of certain firearms, potential federal charges may be pending.
