In a bid to promote healthier habits, foster a cleaner environment and enhance safety awareness, the Plano Independent School District (ISD) is inviting its families to join in the inaugural National Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day, set to take place on May 8, 2024. This event, a collaboration between Plano, Richardson, Murphy, Dallas and Allen municipalities, aims to bring together students, parents and staff to embrace active commuting and build community and school spirit.
Participants are encouraged to kick off their journey approximately 30 minutes before the beginning of the school day, with suggested start times as follows: 7:10 a.m. for elementary schools, 7:55 a.m. for middle schools and 8:30 a.m. for high schools.
Safety is a top priority, with meticulously planned routes mapped out within a two-mile radius of each campus. For those living beyond this boundary, carpooling and parking near the designated radius are encouraged, allowing for a walk, bike or roll to finish the journey.
Be sure to visit the event's webpage, as they will provide updated safety route maps leading up to the event. For route questions, please contact the appropriate traffic and transportation department for the respective city.
