Plano East Senior High School Carter BloodCare blood drive

Just before the “summer slump” when Carter BloodCare receives less donations during the June, July and August months, Plano East Senior High School (PESH) is hosting a blood drive this Friday, April 29 from 8 a.m–4:30 p.m.

The summer months is vacation time for many, and with Carter BloodCare as the primary supplier of blood and transfusion services for North Texas, we need to get out there and donate as a community. The community blood center says one in seven hospital patients could require a blood transfusion and volunteer blood donors provide the blood types to the patients that depend on it. Blood donors make transfusions possible.

All day Friday, the PESH blood drive will be held in the schools gym at 3000 Los Rios Boulevard. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Jill Halvorson at 469.752.9009.

Beginning this May, donors are invited to visit carterbloodcare.org and click ‘give life’ to hear one former patient’s story about why he credits blood donors for giving him life (#GiveForLife) and why he now says “Life is Full of Choices.” Every month a new story will be posted. Have an inspirational story of your own? Share it by emailing TellUsYourStory@carterbloodcare.org. Any blood donation and/or a transfusion experience is welcomed.

A healthy meal and lots of water is recommended an hour before a blood donation. You’re required to weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well the day of your donation and present a government ID.

Volunteers are always appreciated at Carter BloodCare! At age 16, you can begin volunteering with parental consent and anyone over this age is always invited. For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1.800.366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
