School districts around North Texas are celebrating the Texas Rangers’ first World Series win. Several districts announced classes will be canceled to let students and staff celebrate and attend the parade in Arlington.
The first district to announce the closure was Arlington ISD.
“This is the first championship win for the Rangers in their history,” said Dr. Steven Wurtz, interim superintendent of Arlington ISD. “It’s a huge day for sports fans, and we’re excited to celebrate with the team and the community.”
The Rangers organization also requested Arlington ISD marching band students to perform. The district coordinated students from all six traditional high schools to make up one combined band.
Irving ISD students and staff will also have the day off to celebrate, but the district said the day will be made up on Monday, April 1, 2024.
Another district closing on Nov. 3 is Grand Prarie ISD. A statement from the district said that due to the number of staff absences and concern about having enough substitutes districtwide, the district decided to make the day a student and staff holiday.
Everman ISD announced that it would be closed on Friday also due to staffing shortages and reminded anyone attending the parade to be safe.
Mansfield ISD made the decision to close schools on Nov. 3 just before noon yesterday. The district said they did so to allow students and staff to celebrate the Rangers’ historic World Series win.
Another district to join the day off is Crowly ISD. A statement from the district said they will close to join the community in celebrating the Texas Rangers and their historic World Series championship.
Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD staff and students will also have the opportunity to celebrate. The district announced a half-day for Nov. 3, with a three-hour early dismissal.
