Winter storms brought a good amount of snow to Collin County — and other areas of North Texas — over the last 24 hours. Well, maybe that's obvious, but just how much snow did Collin County get?
By The Inches
According to Prosper Director of Communications Todd Rice, the town of Prosper saw approximately 4 inches of snow — which was a little over average compared to other areas.
Some areas of Plano, Frisco and Little Elm saw up to 3.5 inches, and Allen recorded 3 inches. Celina, though, received 6 inches of snow.
How This Compares With Past North Texas Snow
According to data from the NWS the last time North Texas had such a significant amount of snow such as this was 2021. From Feb. 14-17, 2021, a severe arctic outbreak brought multiple rounds of snowfall. Areas east of the I-35 corridor and parts of North Texas saw widespread totals of 6 to 8 inches. The 5-inch snowfall at DFW Airport marked the highest event total in around a decade.
On Dec. 25, 2012, a strong upper-level system and cold front brought hail-producing thunderstorms to the region, followed by a winter weather event that included snow and sleet. The heaviest snowfall, ranging from 4 to 6 inches, occurred in western Denton County and Collin County — similar to the storms on Jan. 9, 2025.
What’s Next For The Weather
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of North Texas until noon today. Light snow and freezing drizzle may lead to minor ice accumulation, primarily on elevated surfaces, through the morning. Conditions are expected to improve by this afternoon.
Road conditions in North Texas will remain poor, with improvement expected later this morning across much of the region. Any water on the roads will refreeze tonight into Saturday morning, creating hazardous conditions once again for North Texas.
