Everything is bigger in Texas and that includes the stakes in H-E-B’s annual Quest for Texas Best. This year, the beloved grocery giant is back with its 12th installment of the competition, calling on local innovators, food wizards and creative minds to submit their best Texas-made products. The prize? A hefty share of $100,000 in cash awards and the chance to see their creations line the shelves of H-E-B stores statewide.
The Hunt for the Best of the Best
From March 10 to April 23, hopeful contestants can throw their hats — and products — into the ring by submitting applications online. The contest is open to all Texas-based entrepreneurs with a market-ready product, spanning everything from snacks and sauces to beauty goods and backyard essentials. If it’s made in Texas, it’s fair game.
H-E-B’s Business Development Managers will sift through entries to select top contenders, who will then head to San Antonio in September for the final showdown. A panel of judges, handpicked by H-E-B, will determine the top four winners, each taking home a slice of the prize money:
- Grand Prize Winner: $50,000, the title of “Texas Best,” and coveted shelf space at H-E-B.
- First Place: $25,000
- Second Place: $15,000
- Third Place: $10,000
More Than Just a Contest
This isn’t just about bragging rights. Over the past decade, H-E-B has unearthed more than 1,000 unique Texas-made products — from tamales and toffee to candles and coolers. To date, the company has reviewed nearly 7,000 submissions, awarded $2.75 million in prize money and even launched its exclusive Million Dollar Club for past winners who have hit seven figures in sales.
“We look forward to connecting with Texas-based innovators each year and providing exciting opportunities through this competition,” said Senior Director of Diversity & Inclusion and Supplier Diversity at H-E-B, James Harris, in an official statement. “After 12 years and nearly 7,000 entries, the creativity and ingenuity of Texans still inspire me.”
