Construction Begins On $5 Billion Dallas Pediatric Health Campus

Children's HealthSM and UT Southwestern Medical Center officially began construction on a new $5 billion pediatric health campus, set to replace the current Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

The campus, located at the intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard and Paul Bass Way, is scheduled to open within the next six to seven years. The medical center will cover over 4.7 million square feet and will feature a new pediatric hospital as its focal point.

The hospital will consist of two 12-story towers and one 8-story tower, while the overall facility will enhance inpatient, surgical and ambulatory services to accommodate the rapidly growing population of North Texas.

With North Texas experiencing unprecedented growth and the pediatric population projected to double by 2060, there is a pressing need for advanced pediatric healthcare. In response, Children’s Health and UT Southwestern unveiled plans for a new pediatric campus in February 2024.

“For more than 110 years Children’s Health, together with our 60-year partners at UT Southwestern, have sought to provide the best care available to the families of North Texas,” said Children's Health President and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Durovich. “Today, as we prepare for the tremendous growth in the area’s pediatric population, through this new pediatric campus we are reaffirming our promise that every child in this community will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams, no matter the challenges they face. This new Dallas campus will be a beacon of hope and healing for our children today — and for generations to come.”

During the groundbreaking, Children's HealthSM and UT Southwestern announced a $100 million donation from The Rees-Jones Foundation to support the construction of the new pediatric campus.

“Community support is vital to the creation of this epic new pediatric campus in Dallas,” said Brent Christopher, president of Children’s Medical Center Foundation. “It’s impossible to fully express our gratitude to the Rees-Jones family, both for the example they set and for their overwhelming generosity. Their contributions make the whole community stronger, which will be felt by more kids and families than we can possibly imagine.”

The donation marked the first time that a Texas not-for-profit construction project has received two individual leadership gifts of $100 million. In May Children's HealthSM and UT Southwestern Medical Center announced a donation of $100 million from the Jean and Mack Pogue family, supporting the $5 billion Dallas pediatric campus.
