Following the successful launch of its first Texas location this spring, The Kati Roll Company (TKRC) announced its continued expansion into North Texas. The New York-based eatery opened its new Plano location on Aug. 24 at 5588 State Hwy 121.
Kati rolls, with "kati" meaning skewer in Bengali, are a beloved street food originating from Kolkata, India. These rolls feature skewer-grilled fillings such as meats and vegetables encased in buttery paratha flatbread, garnished with chutneys and spices. The chain utilizes halal meats, marinated fresh daily on-site, to craft its lassis using homemade organic yogurt.
The Plano location marks the second in North Texas. The first, which opened in April 2024, is located at 1322 Elm St, Dallas. Spanning 2,200 square feet, this restaurant accommodates up to 50 people.
“When we brought the concept to Texas, we knew we wanted the first location in the heart of Dallas, but we always had the suburbs on the mind,” said franchise owner, Hebron Sher, in an official statement. “There is a huge South Asian community within the Dallas metroplex, and we’ve felt the love & excitement for the Plano location the moment the exterior sign went up on the building. We are thrilled to bring the familiar cuisine to the fans of the brand, but also excited to introduce Plano residents to something that is maybe new for them!”
TKRC origins trace back to Payal Saha's journey from Kolkata to New York City. Despite having no prior experience in restaurant management, Saha's craving for authentic kati rolls drove her to start the business. TKRC first opened its doors in 2002 in a quaint corner of Greenwich Village, New York City.
Since then, the company has expanded to several locations, including Manhattan, London and most recently, Dallas. True to its model, TKRC's branches are located in downtown areas popular with office workers, and they predominantly operate during daytime hours.
“What sets TKRC apart is the quality of its ingredients including all halal meats, antibiotic and hormone-free chicken, hand-ground spices and fresh produce,” the company said on its website. “We marinate all of our ingredients daily and never ever use pre-packaged foods or sauces.”
