The city of Plano's Sustainability & Environmental Education division is set to host its annual Texas Recycles Day on Nov. 9, 2024. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Chase Oaks Church, located at 281 Legacy Drive.

Texas Recycles Day provides a convenient opportunity for residents to donate specific household items for reuse or recycling, helping to keep these materials out of landfills. “Drive through, drop off and donate items for reuse and recycling,” organizers encourage in a video posted on the events’ website. Attendees are reminded to only bring accepted items to ensure a smooth process.

This year, various local organizations will participate, accepting the following items:

  • Bikes for Tykes: Any size or condition bicycles
  • Plano Evening Lion's Club: Eyeglasses and sunglasses (any condition, but glasses cases cannot be accepted) and hearing aids
  • Legacy Knit & Crochet Club: Yarn - four medium (worsted) weight, acrylic
  • Play It Again Sports: Sporting goods (excluding treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes, weight plates, bars and benches)
  • United Electronics Recycling: Electronics, click here for a list of accepted items (some fees may apply; cash only accepted)
  • Free Onsite Secure Paper Shredding: A maximum of two standard file boxes

Attendees are advised to box or bag items by category and label them accordingly. For those unable to attend Texas Recycles Day, Plano offers a monthly community recycling event schedule for alternative disposal options.

Texas Recycles Day not only promotes recycling but also encourages community participation in sustainability efforts. For more information, residents can check out the event's details on the city of Plano's event website.
