Downtown Plano was recently honored with the Resiliency Award in the prestigious 2024 Texas Downtown President’s Award Program, which celebrates outstanding projects, places and individuals making a positive impact on Texas downtowns.
This year, Plano stood out for its 2023 World Art Drop Day, a community-centric event that energized the downtown area and showcased the work of local artists.
World Art Drop Day 2023 offered an engaging twist on traditional art exhibitions by transforming Plano into an interactive art treasure hunt. The event invited residents and visitors to explore downtown as they searched for 26 pieces of original artwork, cleverly hidden around the area.
As part of the Texas Cultural District, the event not only spotlighted Plano’s artistic community but also stimulated local businesses and fostered a stronger sense of community connection.
Clues to the artwork locations were shared on social media, creating buzz and attracting foot traffic downtown. By the day’s end, every artwork was claimed, and the district’s social media following had grown, further solidifying Plano's status as a vibrant, culturally rich area.
Building on the success of the previous year, 2024’s World Art Drop Day in Downtown Plano reached new heights, with donations totaling 46 original art pieces. This increase in participation underscored the event’s growing popularity and its continued positive impact on the community’s cultural and economic vitality.
The winners of the 2024 President’s Award Program were announced on Oct. 29, at the President’s Awards Gala. The gala was part of the annual Texas Downtown Conference, held from Oct. 28-30 in Abilene, Texas. The event celebrated innovation, dedication and creativity in Texas downtowns, bringing together visionaries from across the state.
