McKinney National Airport Is An Economic Powerhouse With Annual Impact Over $299 Million

A recent study by InterVISTAS Consulting Inc. revealed that McKinney National Airport (TKI) generates an annual economic impact exceeding $299 million for McKinney and its surrounding areas.

This marks a 41% growth compared to the $212.7 million reported in the previous study conducted in 2018.

Big Job Impact

McKinney National Airport isn’t just a hub for aviation — it’s a powerhouse for economic opportunity. With 420 direct jobs boasting an average salary of $103,400, it far outpaces the Texas average of $65,400 and the national average of $68,500.

Since the last analysis, direct employment climbed by 48%, fueled by increasing aviation traffic and new businesses. Including indirect and induced impacts, the airport supports 950 jobs with $81 million in wages. Add in capital improvements and visitor spending, and TKI’s total economic influence expands to 1,560 jobs.

“This new economic impact study underscores what we’ve known for some time,” Director of the McKinney National Airport Ken Carley said in an official statement. “McKinney National Airport is a vital economic engine for our community. The airport’s growth is directly supporting local jobs and boosting our city’s economy in ways that benefit all residents.”

Tourism And Sustained Prosperity

McKinney National Airport played a key role in welcoming 56,900 visitors, who pumped $21.7 million into the local economy — a 155% increase in visitor volume and a 235% boost in spending compared to the last study.

The report emphasized TKI’s vital role in North Texas’ tourism and hospitality sectors, noting that without the influx of air travelers brought in by TKI, North Texas would see reduced demand for tourism and hospitality, leading to fewer jobs and diminished economic activity in these industries.

“McKinney National Airport is one of our city’s most powerful assets,” said Mayor George Fuller. “This study highlights just how critical the airport’s growth and development are to McKinney’s prosperity. By continuing to invest in the airport, we’re investing in sustainable economic growth, creating jobs, and positioning McKinney as a key destination in North Texas for both businesses and visitors.”
