McKinney Puts Its Money Where Its Mouth Is: Awards $37 Million In Public Grants

McKinney is a great place to live, work and play. Now, it’s going to be even better. The McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) awarded grants to local projects aimed at improving the quality of life in the community.

Each year, funding goes to organizations such as the parks and recreation department, community service groups and convention facilities.

What The Grants Do

This year, board members reviewed applications and heard directly from applicants about how their projects could make a difference for McKinney residents giving millions of dollars to the community.

The MCDC provided nearly $37 million this year to support local businesses, strengthening the city’s economy and fostering growth. These grants help business owners improve infrastructure, enhance retail spaces and create jobs, contributing to McKinney’s reputation as a thriving hub for commerce and improving the overall quality of the city.

"Quality of life can be determined impacted by community events, whether it’s Oktoberfest, Home for the Holidays, or other gatherings that foster engagement and interaction," McKinney Mayor George Fuller told Local Profile. "It can also apply to nonprofits focused on serving specific segments of the population. For example, Hug’s Cafe — which employs adults with special needs — provides meaningful opportunities for underserved communities. These initiatives, along with projects like with the parks that benefit the broader community, all contribute to enhancing McKinney’s quality of life."
