The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is preparing to storm the castle — and your heart — with The Princess Bride in Concert, a live-to-picture performance of the 1987 cult favorite. Set for April 25–27 at the Meyerson Symphony Center, the event will feature the orchestra performing Mark Knopfler’s whimsical score in real time as the film plays on screen.

Fencing, Fighting and Full Orchestra Fun

Now fans can relive it all with a live score. Conducted by Constantine Kitsopoulos, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform composer Mark Knopfler’s original soundtrack in sync with the movie. For the first time, the full score has been specially arranged for a symphony orchestra.

So yes, you’ll hear the sweeping romantic themes and rousing action music — now with the emotional punch of a full-string section. It’s the musical version of a chocolate-coated miracle pill.

Why This Movie Still Has a Hold on Us

What started as a modest box office success has grown into one of the most quoted films of all time. Directed by Rob Reiner and based on William Goldman’s novel, The Princess Bride mashes up fairy tale tropes, deadpan comedy, sword fights and romance with remarkable ease.

It’s the rare film that appeals to kids, parents, first dates and film critics alike — and it’s been doing so for nearly four decades. Whether you first saw it in theaters, on VHS or while flipping through cable, odds are you can quote at least one line. ("As you wish," anyone?)

An All-Star Cast and Legendary Scenes

The film stars Robin Wright as Buttercup and Cary Elwes as Westley, with standout performances from Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Chris Sarandon and the one and only André the Giant. Peter Falk narrates the tale as a bedtime story with a few interruptions and a lot of heart.

From “To the pain” to “Have fun stormin’ the castle,” the film’s blend of wit, heart and swashbuckling charm has kept it at the top of favorite-movie lists for years.

Where and When

The Princess Bride in Concert runs April 25–27 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, located at 2301 Flora St. in downtown Dallas. Tickets start at $52 and are available now at dallassymphony.org.

Whether you’re in it for the swordplay, the score or the rodents of unusual size, one thing’s clear: this isn’t your average night at the symphony.
