On Oct. 1, 2024, neighborhoods across Dallas and Collin County will join in celebrating National Night Out (NNO), a nationwide event designed to foster stronger relationships between local police and the communities they serve.
The initiative, which promotes safer and more connected neighborhoods, will feature block parties, cookouts and safety demonstrations, giving residents a chance to engage with law enforcement and fellow neighbors.
National Night Out has been a cornerstone community-building event since its launch in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch. This annual campaign encourages neighbors to come together and build connections with each other while collaborating with local police to create a safer, more cohesive environment. Across Texas, cities celebrate NNO on the first Tuesday in October, with block parties, festivals, safety demonstrations and more.
Residents are encouraged to host block parties, which may include activities such as potlucks, local food trucks, movie nights, yard games and contests. By doing so, they can connect with neighbors, exchange contact information and establish a supportive network within their community. National Night Out has grown significantly since its inception, now reaching millions of participants across thousands of communities each year.
