From fried foods to live music, the State Fair of Texas is on most Texan’s to-do list this month. But the fair fun does not have to end when you leave – a furry friend could come home with you.

To celebrate this year's fair festivities the Dallas Animal Services will be waiving adoption fees until October 23. A variety of pets from kittens to senior dogs are available for adoption at 1818 N. Westmoreland Road.

Dallas Animal Services has gotten into the spirit of fair fun by also giving the adoptable friends State Fair of Texas-themed names. All animals ready to find a home will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated prior to adoption. Heartworm treatment will also be given to animals that test positive.

If you didn’t get enough of the state fair, Dallas Animal Services will be giving out tickets. The organization explained in a Facebook post, “every person who adopts a dog gets a chance to draw for a free ticket, donated by Friends of Dallas Animal Services.” The tickets are limited, so act quickly if you want a chance to win.

There are over 350 dogs ready to find their forever home, along with many cats, a few rabbits and several guinea pigs available for adoption. According to the Dallas Examiner, every adoption will come with a voucher for a free pet exam and a week of virtual dog training from the GoodPup app.

The Dallas Animal Services is one of the largest municipal animal shelters in the country and  will take in any pet in need, regardless of space. If you aren’t ready to bring a pet into your home but still want to be involved, the shelter is in need of volunteers.
If you are hoping to bring home a furry companion this year you must be 18 years or older and have a valid ID. To learn more about adoption visit the Dallas Animal Services website
