In Plano, everyone knows and loves Arbor Hills Nature Preserve which borders Carrollton and most everyone is familiar with the charm of Oak Point Park, thanks to it’s beautiful pond and it being the home of the Plano Balloon Festival. But have you visited Bob Woodruff Park?

Bob Woodruff Park over in east Plano is easily overlooked but it’s equally large and beautiful, maybe even more so than Arbor Hills and Oak Point. If you’ve never visited Bob Woodruff Park, give it a try, we promise you won’t regret it.

Just look at this view! The toddler playground at Bob Woodruff Park wins all the awards for playground with the most idyllic setting.

Plus, Bob Woodruff Park has a big, fun playground. You’ll notice from the photos that this playground is not new so it’s not going to win any accolades for having the brightest colors or the latest and greatest in sensory gadgets but it is pretty extensive lots to do. And, you can’t complain about the beautiful view of the lake. Can you imagine a better setting for a picnic?

Considering this playground is on the older side, we were also surprised to find that it is accessible by wheelchair. There is a ground level access platform which leads onto the playstructure and along and around some of the structure. While we would hesitate to call this playground an all-abilities playground (such as Jack Carter and Liberty Playground), it does have some accomodations.

The walkways of the play structure at Bob Woodruff Park are wheelchair accessible.

The playground includes multiple climbing features, bridges and walkways (wide enough for a wheelchair), lots of slides, monkey bars, mini-pavilions and a seperate toddler playground structure.

There is also a bank of swings with belt swings, toddler bucket swings and a molded bucket swing with safety harness. Is this the most exciting playground in Plano? No. Is it the most colorful or innovative? No. But, is it a great destination? Absolutely, a stop at the playground should just be part of your visit to Bob Woodruff Park in Plano.

Other amenities and atrractions are Bob Woodruff Park include a fishing pier  (view fishing information), hard surface trails, a very large pavilion, restrooms and a sand volleyball court.

Take note that there are a few different entrances to Bob Woodruff Park so if you are looking for the playground, be sure to choose the entrance on San Gabriel Road.

Excuse us for all the photos but this park is just so pretty we couldn’t help ourselves!
