Plans Unveiled For Dallas’ Fair Park Renovation

Dallas Parks Department and Fair Park recently announced that Dallas' cherished 277-acre fairgrounds will be renovated, guaranteeing even more year-round events.

The upcoming renovations will center around three key areas: Cotton Bowl Stadium, a privately financed Community Park Complex and the Music Hall at Fair Park. These venue improvements will be financed through the Brimer Bill, which was approved as part of last year's Proposition A referendum.

This historic venue, renowned for drawing premier entertainers and hosting world-class events, is set to undergo its most extensive amenity enhancements since 1948. With a budget of $140 million and a two-year timeline, this project pays homage to the illustrious history and unique architectural charm of the Cotton Bowl. The improvements aim to elevate the visitor experience and incorporate modernizations that will ensure an enhanced fan experience for future generations.

“This is the first cog in the wheel of a greater mechanism, providing funding for the future of the campus,” said  Fair Park First President of the Board Darren L. James. “Unlike previous renovations, which centered around increasing capacity, this project amplifies the fan experience for everyone who visits Fair Park.”

The renovations to the Cotton Bowl mark the most substantial financial commitment to Fair Park in its 137-year history. This project underscores the collaborative efforts between Dallas Parks and Recreation and Fair Park First in not only preserving the stadium's rich legacy and heritage but also charting a course for its future as the premier outdoor venue in Texas.

Additional enhancements include widening concourses, tripling the current square footage available to each guest in key areas and installing escalators. Planned upgrades are set to enhance the overall fan experience by improving in-stadium Wi-Fi connectivity, expanding the number of hospitality areas and premium environments. Collaborative efforts between Visit Dallas and the Dallas Sports Commission on the Cotton Bowl Stadium improvements will play a pivotal role in attracting future large-scale concerts and sporting events.

The two-year restoration will be carried out in two distinct phases, ensuring that the stadium can continue to host its annual events seamlessly, including during the 2024 State Fair of Texas. Other high-priority projects at Fair Park include the revitalization of the Music Hall, improvements to The African American Museum and the development of a privately funded community park.
