Plane Makes Emergency Landing, Collides With Car In McKinney, Texas

One person was injured in McKinney after a plane made an emergency landing and collided with a car. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the crash.

The McKinney Fire Department swiftly responded to an Alert 3 distress call reporting the plane crash at 12:30 p.m. on Nov 11, 2023. The aircraft, a single-engine Lancair IV-P, was coming from Midland and attempting to make an emergency landing at Aero Country Airport.

According to a statement from the city of McKinney, the pilot was unable to bring the plane to a halt at the runway's end, breaching a fence and veering onto Eastbound Virginia Parkway. Subsequently, a collision occurred with a passing car.

Upon arrival at the scene, McKinney Fire Department Paramedics assessed three individuals — two from the plane and one from the car. One person, who sustained minor injuries in the vehicle, was transported to the hospital.

According to WFAA, a witness of the crash was working nearby and said he saw the plane as it was landing.

“I saw the airplane coming down the runway quickly I knew that he wasn’t gonna have time to stop. It was clearly going too fast, the tires were smoking,” said Jack Schneider. “So I quickly pulled out my phone because I could tell something was about to happen.”

FAA investigators are currently working to determine the crash's cause, and the affected roadway was closed for several hours on Saturday. Motorists were also strongly advised to steer clear of the area.
