North Texas Performing Arts Presents...

Three new productions are headed to Plano, Frisco and McKinney in January! North Texas Performing Arts is comprised of Plano Children’s Theatre, Frisco Youth Theatre and McKinney Youth Theater and it’s bringing three famous musicals to the area, two of which are Disney.

Beginning Thursday, January 7 through January 10, prepare for a four-day, six-performance musical series of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. Frisco’s Youth Theatre presents this two-hour long musical based on the Academy Award-winning animated movie, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.

When Maurice becomes lost in the woods on the way to the fair, he seeks shelter in an old castle, but the master of the castle is a terrible beast that takes him captive. Maurice’s daughter, Belle, must then give up her freedom in return for his father’s life. Belle’s taming of the unfortunate Beast and his ultimate transformation back into a handsome prince is a beloved fairy tale about very different people finding strength in one another and learning how to love. See how Director Nick Mann brought this story to life!

January 13 through January 17, a classic animated film is taken to the stage by youth! Disney’s Cinderella KIDS can be seen at the Frisco Discovery Center, performed by Frisco Youth Theatre.

Cinderalla has it rough. Endlessly mistreated by her evil stepmother and stepsisters, and denied a chance to go to the royal ball?! Watch Cinderella’s dreams come true from a little help via her mice friends and tons of help from her Fairy Godmother. She heads to the ball, meets her Prince and falls deep in love. This adaptation is tactfully done thanks to Director Linsdey Lederer with music and lyrics by Mack David, Al Hoffman and Jerry Livingston. Don’t miss out because the clock strikes at midnight!

January 21 through January 31 offers a choice of 12 amazing performances. Be prepared to join McKinney Youth Theatre in an original whimsical  musical Into the Woods JR. Some fairy-tale favorites—Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch—meet in this Stephen Sondheim musical production.

A baker and his wife wish to have a child; Cinderella wishes to attend the king’s festival; and Jack wishes his cow would give milk. The Witch’s nasty curse prevents the baker and his wife from having a child, so the pair set off on a journey to break it and end up forever changed. Take part in this story with a twist by Director Hollie Hongosh, you won’t regret it!

It’s time to take on a musical adventure those of all ages can enjoy!
